Things I <3

I’m a simple girl at heart and love the smaller things in life.  I’m not very socially outgoing and like to read between the lines.  I’m not a follower of brands and I don’t mind the walking the path less taken.  This is just a small collection of things that bring me joy so I figured I’d share them with you!

1. Fujifilm Instax Mini.  I love this little instant camera and the tiny Polaroid type images that you get from it.  It’s small enough to throw in your purse and super fun at dinner parties or when you’re out with friends.  I’ve even used it on a boudoir shoot before, taking snapshots of certain body parts and then having the client hold the photos for a super sexy look.

2. Great Danes.  I’ve always loved bigger dogs and I have owned one and will own another (or more) in my lifetime.  They are the most amazing and cuddly and funny dogs ever.  Oh, and check out these Great Danes with kittens!  Seriously – you cannot get any cuter than that.  I pretty much love every animal though.

3. Design.  Rather it’s web design or home design, I love it.  I love the aspects of making different genres work together to form a piece of art.  I have been coding websites (nothing major) for years now and it’s always a challenge and of course it’s a language of it’s own (literally), so I also love that aspect of it.  (Hey, does that mean when others ask what languages I know I could tell them HTML as well?!)  Of course with Pinterest, there are so many inspiring concoctions on there for one’s home, wadrobe, website, or anything you could imagine designing.

4. Coffee.  I could drink (and do) a pot or more a day.  I like just plain, black coffee with no creams or sugars although sometimes I can indulge in one of the super frilly ones from Starbucks.

5. Whiskey.  No explanation needed.

6. Holding hands.  I personally think this is one of the most intimate acts two human beings can do.  I love the closeness of it and just the interlocking of two people.  I also love hands (I always am particular on how I pose hands in photos), so perhaps that’s part of the reason.

7. Music with amazing lyrics.  Sure, a good beat can make me move but I also love deep and meaningful lyrics.  Because of this I don’t listen to much mainstream music but I love lyrics that speak to me or I can connect with.  Ones that tell a story or are full on metaphors that leave you wondering what the writer was thinking or making it pertain to your life however you’d like.

8. Animal skulls.  I know, a little creepy – but I don’t mean the Heads Mounted On The Wall type skulls.  I grew up on a farm where naturally, things would happen out in the wild.  I began noticing the skulls years ago and since I am a lover of anatomy I was instantly drawn to them.  I have quite a few deer skulls, a squirrel skull and a cat skull on my bookshelves.  All died naturally and were naturally sun-bleached before I found them.

9. Boots.  I counted the other day and I own exactly seventeen pairs of boots.  Ankle boots, cowgirl boots, dress boots, knee high boots, rain boots.  I love boots and love any excuse to wear them. I will never own a pair of Uggs, though – and I don’t care how comfortable they are.

10. Old Patchwork Quilts.  I promise I’m only 27 but I just love the quality and even the smell of a good patchwork quilt.  I love the beautiful colors and Hodge-podge designs.  I also swear they’ll keep you a lot warmer than any quilt bought in the stores today.
