Janelle; Retro – North Carolina Boudoir Photography

I shot this session with my lovely and beautiful friend Janelle a few months back.  I have been hesitating posting them because of my own hangups.  I am sure to the eyes of someone who is not a photographer, they look great.  The thing is, I am a natural light photographer.  I shoot all natural light with no help from a flash, external light, etc.  This session?  It was completely spur of the moment, took all of 15 minutes and was shot at 9pm at night.  That’s right – with no natural lighting!  I DO own a flash for those few times I need it, but I honestly forget I have it because I use it so little.  I did a little bouncing with it, though, and am pretty happy with the results.  Janelle is just too beautiful not to share, though – so here they are!  We will be re-shooting soon, as this was just for fun and during one of our girl evenings where we drink wine and catch up.  So please, don’t judge the shadows and harsh light!:)

I love the photos, I think the lighting looks great especially for using fancy flashes, soft boxes, and a ton of other equipment. I think sometimes when you use all that stuff you lose a lot in being creative.
Again awesome photos of a lovely girl!

We as photographers are WAY too hard on ourselves…Wow! I think you did a great job! I don’t notice anything but her kickass personality that shines through your photos! I love your style!

Think of it as a bit of a learning experience. Someday you may have to shoot with artificial light again (even though you prefer not to). *nods*

Anyway, given what you had to work with, these look fantastic. :D

I love the shadows. Makes it look like it was done by candlelight! AMAZING shots.
